Relief Jones, III, M.D.
Dr. Jones was born in Gretna, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans. He graduated with Honors from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He earned his M.D. degree at the Duke University School of Medicine and then traveled to Boston for a post-doctoral research fellowship in Immunology and Transplantation at the Schepens Eye Research Institute/Harvard Medical School. He returned “home” to New Orleans for a year’s internship at Tulane University. This was followed by a three year Residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Jones then undertook a further year of training in the specialty of Glaucoma at the prestigious Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Jones ultimately decided to settle down in San Antonio due to the cultural diversity and friendly people. He and his family enjoy working out, dancing salsa and merengue, playing many different sports and traveling. His wife is also an ophthalmologist (originally from Bogota, Colombia) who is currently completing a residency at the University of Texas, so that she can practice ophthalmology in the U.S.
